What is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is a situation that can't wait until the next day for care. Common dental emergencies can include:

  • Knocked out tooth
  • Severely swollen jaw
  • Heavy, uncontrollable bleeding in the mouth
  • Sudden severe mouth pain
  • Broken tooth
  • Cracked tooth
  • Damaged dental devices such as bridges or dental implants
  • Dislodged filling
  • Non-food item stuck in the teeth

What if You're Not Sure It's an Emergency?

When you're dealing with dental problems, it can be hard to tell whether it's a minor issue or a serious one. However, if you've considered that it might be a dental emergency, it likely is one.

When is the Dentist Available for Help with Dental Emergencies?

Our doctors understand that dental emergencies happen at all hours, so he's available whenever needed. If you have a dental emergency during office hours, simply contact the office and we'll work you into one of our doctor's schedule as quickly as possible. Regular office hours are:

  • Monday: 9 am - 5 pm
  • Tuesday: 8 am - 5 pm
  • Wednesday: 8 am - 5 pm
  • Thursday: 9 am - 5 pm
  • Friday: 9 am - 5 pm

What if You Knock Your Tooth Out?

If you knock your tooth out, contact Sunrise Dental immediately. There's only about an hour to attempt re-implantation. Pick up the tooth by the crown, taking care to avoid the roots.

If you're able, put the tooth back in the socket, and hold it in place gently with your tongue. If you can't keep the tooth in the socket, drop the knocked out tooth in a glass of regular cow's milk to preserve it until you arrive at our office.

What if a Filling is Loose?

Call Sunrise Dental right away for help. Don't eat or drink with an exposed cavity. If you can't get to Sunrise Dental right away, you can use an over the counter dental sealant or sugar-free gum to protect the exposed cavity in the interim.
